Thatch batts are basically fire-resistant slabs installed under the thatched roof – to give it some fire resistance and also thermal/ acoustic insulation. When used independently, these thatch batts slow the spread of fire thereby giving the people inside the house more time to evacuate the space. However, when teamed up with other forms of fire protection, such as the aluminum barrier foil or the spray, it provides total fireproof protection.
The second product i.e. the aluminum barrier foil acts as a reflective insulator. For this, heavy gauge aluminum foil is used against excessive heat. In fact, the aluminum barrier foil conducts neither heat nor electricity, and is applied to the roof in the same way we use felt.
The next is fire retardant spray! When applied to the exterior of the house, or even the thatched structure of your home, it provides fire protection as well as an additional layer of water resistance. These are often the most preferred choice of protecting thatched roofs from fire because the spray is biodegradable, non-toxic, and lasts for a decade or more. This is why the spray is also at times used on the interior of the structure – to protect the underside of the roof as well.
